Yadav said that the Railways has run 2600 laborers special trains in the last 23 days to reach about 36 lakh stranded migrants. He said that now 1000 ticket counters have been opened across the country and more counters will be opened soon.
The chairman said, "We have run an average of 260 Shramik Special trains daily in the last four days and transported three lakh passengers daily to their destination." When asked about the fare of special trains running from June 1 He said that the railway is charging the normal fare before the lockdown. He reiterated that the Center bears 85 percent of the expenses of workers' special trains, while the states are paying just 15 percent as fares.
Regarding the letter sent by the West Bengal government requesting the suspension of all migrant special trains in the state by 26 May due to cyclone Amphan, Yadav said that it has happened due to natural disasters and things will be back to normal soon.
